NEXT SGVBA -LUNCH MEETING – MCLE Topic: ” Evidence Code Section 1129 – An Opportunity to Strengthen the Attorney-Client Relationship “

FRIDAY May 3, 2019 @ 12:30 PM SHARP!
Place: Almansor Court, located at 700 South Almansor Street, Alhambra, CA 91801.

On Friday, April 5, 2019, join us at the San Gabriel Valley Bar Association’s general meeting.

Newly adopted effective January 1, 2019, Evidence Code Section 1129 requires attorneys and their clients to sign a printed disclosure of mediation confidentiality restrictions before the clients agree to participate in mediation. The new law imposes an uncomfortable burden on attorneys to explain that confidential mediation communications cannot be used even if the clients sue for malpractice. We will discuss how this new section creates new opportunities for attorneys to build stronger relationships with their clients, and protect themselves at the same time.

Rande S. Sotomayor is a Los Angeles-based mediator with 35 years of commercial
